The pupils realised that you can make a really stable toy by making sure that the centre of mass is below the point (the pivot). Robbie showed that maybe tightrope walking is not as hard as it looks – just get a long bendy pole!
This was really fun. At the beginning of the lesson I didn’t know anything about centre of mass and now I do. It shocked me that if a tightrope walker holds a pole, it is less likely to fall because his centre of gravity isn’t sideways.
I loved that activity
I loved that activity we learnt how to balence things
Balence

We made toys with a centre of mass that you could balance on your finger.
By Dylan, Robbie and Levi.
I remember how to do that because the heavy weights are going back so the weight is even
India and I thought the experiment and it was really cool how the stick burnt to the edge of the tube and didn’t fall off!!!!!!!!
The experiment as fun and…
I remember how to do that because the heavy weights are going back so the weight is even but if the mass is under it will balance
This was very fun but you can’t make any old shape as it won’t work if the centre of mass is not in the right place
