We made these pieces of art by creating an observational masking tape drawing depicting one of the beautiful trees on the Willowbank. Over the masking tape we daubed, printed and brushed a variety of textures to create an atmosphere. We then peeled off the masking tape to reveal a white tree shape, which we then drew onto with biro to form tree textures, bark and branches. We talked about how curved lines suggest form and how to develop light and dark and tonal approaches to developing the tree image using cross-hatching and other shapes. Next we looked at images of British birds and transferred these onto white paper with biro. We added a variety of line and pattern onto the birds to create interest. Finally we cut out the birds and arranged then onto our tree backgrounds to form our final compositions.
