Levi has made this post! Gears change the speed and the power of things. Today we all had a go on the bicycle on the turbo trainer. We worked out our average speeds, and felt what it was like in different gears.
Pupils were given the chance to dissect pigs’ eyeballs from the butcher. We were all fascinated by the lenses inside the eyes. When you put the lenses on some newspaper they magnified the writing.
The pupils realised that you can make a really stable toy by making sure that the centre of mass is below the point (the pivot). Robbie showed that maybe tightrope walking is not as hard as it looks – just get a long bendy pole!
The pupils all managed to do the fork balancing trick! It looks impossible, but because the centre of mass of the two forks is somewhere between the two handles, it is possible to balance them using a cocktail stick and a glass (or measuring cylinder!)
